I have sent my application – what happens next?

Wait in Your Home Country for Eligibility Confirmation
Before making travel arrangements, please wait for confirmation that you are eligible to join the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The Ukraine Armed Forces reviews the formal aspects of your application. We will notify you once your application is processed and approved, or not approved.

How long will it take to receive a reply, and what should I do if I don’t hear back?

It typically takes 3-4 weeks for Ukraine Armed Forces to review your application and make a decision. However, this timeline may be longer if you lack relevant experience.
We will update you via email as soon as there is any progress.

Will I be considered a mercenary or a criminal if I join the Legion?

No, you will be a fully legal servicemember of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, just like all other Ukrainians and non-citizens who courageously serve. However, we strongly recommend that you review your local laws to understand your country’s position on individuals serving in foreign militaries.

Should I bring anything with me? If yes – what?

You will be provided with all the essential equipment, including a uniform, weapons, body armor, helmet, boots, and more. We advise against purchasing any additional items. All you need is your passport.

What languages do I need to speak to be able to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine?

We only accept people who understand either English, Spanish or Ukrainian.

Should I travel to Ukraine before a confirmation that you are accepted to the service?

No. We do not provide compensation for the travel expenses.

Do I get compensation for the tickets and other travel expenses?

No, travelling before the confirmation creates additional work for both us and the local recruitment centers. You would be also responsible for covering your accommodation and personal expenses in Ukraine while waiting 4 to 6 weeks for your application to be processed. Please apply online from the comfort of your own home and wait for the decision

Do I get paid? How much?

You will receive the standard pay of a Ukrainian soldier, which varies based on the conditions of your service. Payment is made in Ukrainian Hryvnia (UAH) to a local bank account. The approximate amounts in USD are as follows:

$550 per month for service behind the frontlines,
$1,100 per month for service in high-risk zones, and
Up to $4,800 per month for combat deployments.

Please note that these figures are estimates, as exchange rates may fluctuate, and certain roles or units may offer additional bonuses.

Can you issue me a visa, travel document or a signed contract?

We do not provide visas or any documents that can be used for travel to the EU. Since travel to Ukraine must be done by land, you must have legal permission to enter one of the neighboring countries: Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, or Moldova. Once accepted by a unit, crossing the border into Ukraine from any of these countries should be straightforward.
